Epic gps fail

Epic gps fail

I don’t know why, but it appears that the routes i have on my gps for day 4 to day 7 are just copies of day 3’s route. I meant to verify each and every route once i’d put it onto the gps but ran out of time. It’s not the end of the world. I still have my road map, plus google maps on my phone. But it is a big pain.
I’m in Cheddar just now having food before the climb up the gorge. Much flatter today as promised, and i’ve been whizzing along at 18mph or so.

  1. yeah, and all your routes are already on map my ride. Can I email something that can help? Can you attach the gps to a computer that will let you input routes?

  2. Could you use a Bluetooth -> Serial adaptor so you can send files from your mobile to the GPS? Does such a thing exist?

  3. Don’t tell me you forgot to pack a compiler/interpreter and a soldering iron along with your wet weather gear, spare socks etc 🙂

Surely a bit of JavaScript code, some data from mapmyride.com, a piece of wire, and some duct tape should be enough to solve the problem… though I guess normal people would just type in the numbers by hand 🙁

  4. I know it will take a bit of time, but you should be able to enter the way points manually for the days that are missing by navigating round the map and entering each and everyone manually. (Its been that long since I used it).

  5. I am starting the end to end on Sunday with my dad. We are probably a few days behind you but we have a gps, with a route mapped in it… if we cross paths at any point then perhaps it’s possible to share data… although you might be doing a slightly different route. It took about 18 hours to upload everything into the gps! if not then good luck!
